What is BOTOX?
BOTOX is a purified form of the botulinum toxin. When it’s injected into a muscle, BOTOX temporarily blocks the nerve signals that make the muscle contract. As a result, the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles caused by that muscle are eliminated or significantly diminished.
What types of wrinkles are treated by BOTOX?
As you get older, two types of facial wrinkles develop. Static wrinkles are caused by age-related changes, such as dehydration, thinning skin, and loss of collagen, which is needed for strong, resilient skin.
The second type of wrinkle is caused by repetitive muscle movements that occur every time you make certain facial expressions, such as frowning. These wrinkles, called dynamic wrinkles, are effectively diminished with BOTOX.
BOTOX treats the following moderate-to-severe wrinkles:
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
- Forehead furrows
- Neck bands
You’ll still look natural after a BOTOX treatment, because Dr. Tran carefully targets a few specific muscles. The rest of your facial muscles work normally, so you’ll still show the full range of facial expressions.
When will I see results after a BOTOX treatment?
After your BOTOX injections, you’ll see the difference in 24-48 hours. The results can last up to four months, then you can get another treatment.* Your results may last longer when you get future injections.
What is XEOMIN?
XEOMIN is another type of botulinum toxin injection that’s approved to treat moderate-to-severe frown lines between your eyebrows.
XEOMIN produces some results in less than a week, but you may not see the maximum impact for 30 days. Your results last about three months.*
Are dermal fillers the same as BOTOX?
Dermal fillers diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles, but they’re not the same as BOTOX. Fillers are injected under your skin, not into the muscle, so they’re used to treat static wrinkles such as laugh lines and other wrinkles around your nose and mouth.
Fillers are injected just below the skin, where they plump up the area to smooth out wrinkles. Some types of fillers also have a lifting effect.
Dr. Tran offers two brands of fillers: Juvéderm® and Radiesse®. Both produce immediate results and last one to two years, depending on the product used.*
